Highlights

Visit North Africa’s Highest Peak

Standing at 14,671ft, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa. Whilst standing at the summit, you will enjoy spectacular views of the plains surrounding Marrakech and the Toubkal Massif.

Explore the Colorful City of Marrakech

In-between walking tours, you will have the opportunity to explore the city of Marrakech. It features a rich architectural heritage, containing monuments of a romantic nature, such as the Arsat Moulay Abdeslam park. You will also find many local markets and shops selling handicrafts and souvenirs.

Optional Ascent of Mount Ouanakrim

After you ascend and descend Mount Toubkal, you will have the chance to go on an optional trek up to Mount Ounakrim. Although the peak is lower than Mount Toubkal, the summit is more challenging, making it ideal for those wanting to test their hiking skills. Please note, this trek is dependent on weather conditions, so it may be unavailable if your tour guide deems the trip to be too dangerous.

Sample Itinerary

Climb to Mount Toubkal

Aside from being the tallest peak in North Africa, Mount Toubkal is a challenging yet rewarding trek, featuring stunning panoramic views of the plains surrounding Marrakech. In this sample itinerary, you’ll not only climb and camp at Mount Toubkal, but also explore the colorful city of Marrakech and Arroumd village.

Day 1: Fly to Marrakech

Fly to Marrakech and, if time permits, spend some time exploring the city, before attending the introductory group meeting in the early evening.

Stay overnight at Hotel Gomassine or similar.

Day 2: Imi Oughlad – Tizi n’ Tichka Pass – Azaden Valley

After breakfast, head to Imi Oughlad by minibus. Meet the local muleteers and mules. They guide you on a 5-hour walk up the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and down to Azaden Valley.

Camp on the outskirts of a small village near a river. Spend the next 4 nights in full-service camping.

Ascent: 2,110ft

Day 3: Berber Villages – Ighoulidem Waterfall

Spend a full day walking through Berber villages. Despite the term ‘Berber’ often being used to describe native Moroccan tribes, they prefer to be called Amazigh (which means “free people”) as ‘Berber’ is derived from the word ‘barbarian.’

From there, proceed to Azib Tamsoult and the Irhouliden cascade, followed by camp for the night. In the afternoon there is an optional 3-hour ascent to Hadjj summit, which provides marvelous views of Mount Toubkal.

Day 4: Aguelzim Pass

Climb to the Aguelzim Pass. Upon arrival, you’ll be rewarded with views of the Toubkal Massif and surrounding plains near Marrakech. Then descend to Toubkal Base Camp. If desired, you can join an optional 3-hour climb to the summit of Ouanoums.

Despite the camping arrangement, you’ll still have access to showers, a shared lounge, and a small shop.

Day 5: Mount Toubkal – Free Afternoon at Basecamp

Early in the morning, start from basecamp and ascend Mount Toubkal. Make a steep climb through the southern ridge and reach the 13,671ft summit. Marvel at the panoramic scenery and descend to basecamp. Enjoy free leisure in the afternoon.

Day 6: Mount Ouanakrim - Arroumd

In the morning, ascend Mount Ouanakrim. Despite being lower than Mount Toubkal and more challenging, this walk is considered a highlight of the trip. However, the walk may not go ahead in bad weather. Your tour guide will advise you on the day if the trip is achievable.

From there, leave basecamp and head to Aroumd village. Explore the city in the afternoon if time permits.

Day 7: Imlil – Marrakech

Take a short walk to Imlil and drive back to Marrakech. Enjoy a guided tour of the city, learning about its culture, architecture, and history. Then have free leisure exploring the main square; a perfect chance to browse the shops for souvenirs.

Stay overnight at the Hotel Gomassine or similar.

Day 8: Fly to London

Your trip officially ends after breakfast. Transfer to the airport and fly back to London.
