After the collapse of the communist regime in the 1990s, Albania has become a popular tourist destination. There are gorgeous mountain ranges, fortress towns, and sparkling beaches. What’s more, Albania is home to remnants of half-forgotten ancient Greek and Roman sites.
Albania is home to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Pogradec, Berat, Gjirokaster, and Butrint. Butrint is one of Albania’s most significant archaeological sites, and it is rumored to have been inhabited by people in prehistoric times.
The Albanian Riviera is a long stretch of shoreline, which goes from Vlorë to Palasë in the North, and from Sarandë to Ksamil in the South. The riviera is also home to some of Albania’s most beloved, hidden beaches.
The Durrës Amphitheater was first discovered back in 1966, and it is rumored to have been built after the 2nd century B.C. Meanwhile, the Korce Museum houses all kinds of ancient Christian icons. There is classical religious art, which is arranged based on color.
Located 40km southeast of Vlora, the Llogara National Park features beautiful forests of pine and oak, stunning mountain ranges. It is also close to the majestic Ionian Sea. The park is one of the most visited in Albania. This is largely due to its immense size, the cooling effect of the lush forests (great for summer), and the wide variety of birds, deer, foxes, and wild cats.
